Joint measurement, shared method

Joint measurement, data sharing and method transfer with public bodies and private institutions. The instrument and the protocol are the institute's; the question and the findings are shared with the partner institution.

Principles

The frame of joint work rests on three principles and stays the same in every partnership.

  1. Instrument and protocol

    In joint work too, the instrument is built on the institute's measurement framework and runs under the published field protocol. The question is written together with the partner institution; the instrument, the sample and the review remain with the institute. Every change to the method is recorded in the written framework.

  2. Data ownership

    Individual-level records never leave the institute. Aggregate data is shared with the partner institution to the extent set out in the written framework. The findings of a commissioned study stay with the commissioning institution; findings arising from the institute's own programme are published in open access.

  3. Use of the name

    The institute's name and emblem are used only on outputs that have passed its review, and only with written consent. Any announcement of joint work states which part belongs to the institute.

Public and private

The frame is the same in both fields; only the origin of the question changes.

Enquiry — A partnership enquiry is made to the institute's correspondence address, in a single paragraph setting out the partner institution's question and its scope. The institute replies with a scoping note; the written framework is built on that note.
